We ran our first Scout sailing evening at Island Barn on Friday. It was a great success, so thanks to Martin Rides and Dave Bryant who spend many hours making sure that our Boats were up to scratch. Thanks Also to Team Viking member Cathy Herbert for acting as a helm and taking the scouts for what was, for some of them, their first sailing experience. We had a peaceful evening with a light breeze and sunshine which was perfect for cruising around the reservoir. We had managed to have our three Gull dinghys inspected, so the first thing we had to do was swamp test them. I proved rather good at this as, for once, my extra tyre came in useful in that I was able to sink one end of the boat. But the way, our Gulls are almost unsinkable. We flooded them to the seats, but the buoyancy tanks kept them stable and well afloat.

Next is to inspect and swamp test the Silver Streaks, the Enterprise, the Topper and Oppy.

Thanks also to Craig McGlennan who did a great job as Hardmaster and Julie Taylor and Catrin Rides who kept order on the bank.  Our safety boat crew of Martin Elvidge and Simon Johnson did a great job making sure that someone was around should anyone get into trouble. (Simon, I think we will need you as a helm next time :-) )

We are sailing with the cubs on the 21st June, so if we have anyone else willing to help, please let me know.
